WHAT IS ACADEMIC COACHING?

Academic coaching is not tutoring.  Most tutoring is content-specific.  Academic coaching helps students develop academic strategies such  as organization, time management, note taking, expository writing and test preparation. Unfortunately, these strategies are not always taught by subject area teachers, especially at the middle school and high school level. As students progress through higher grades, there is an expectation that students devise their own approach to tackling the assignments. Coaches help students build confidence, motivation, and independence through the creation of individualized study strategies to target different learning styles.  The ultimate goal of academic coaching is to help students learn to work smarter, not harder.
